African Environments Kayaking Tours |
|||||||
|
Our kayaking tours are designed to include a variety of environments (from lake to river to ocean) while remaining mostly suitable for someone with limited kayaking as well as those with more experience. Alternative activities can be arranged for non-paddling members of the group. Accommodation is a mixture of semi-luxury lightweight camps and luxury lodges. Guests paddle under their own steam in specially designed fibreglass, single sea-kayaks. All our tours are accompanied by a competent kayaking guide and include safety, 1st Aid and communications equipment as well as a support vehicle/boat when appropriate. Our tours are an excellent way of diversifying a Tanzanian safari and make a good add-on to a northern safari, a Kilimanjaro climb; or a bridge for those heading to Mkomazi and the coast. Try our unique kayaking tours that no one else in Tanzania can offer! 3 Day Nyumba Ya Mungu Lake to The Pangani River This tour passes through off the beaten track terrain with Kilimanjaro as a backdrop. The distances are not too long, the water is flat and there is vehicle access. However the prospect of hippos, crocs and the abundant birdlife give it a certain excitement and interest. It therefore appeals to all levels of kayaker and the mixture of lake and river offer a variety of paddling experiences. Accommodation is semi-luxury camping. 5 Day Maji Moto Hot Springs to The Pangani River This tour starts at Maji Moto just South of Kilimanjaro and heads off down a fairly fast river before joining the Nyumba Ya Mungu Lake making for the Pangani River. It is therefore more suitable for clients with some kayaking experience. However less confident paddlers can skip the fast section since the pace of the rest of the route the pace is fairly relaxed. Accommodation is semi-luxury lightweight camping. 5 Day Nyumba Ya Mungu to The Indian Ocean Start at Nyumba Ya Mungu Lake and paddle for two days into the Pangani River, semi-luxury camping en-route. Then drive the rest of the way to the Indian Ocean at Pangani to stay in a luxury lodge. Spend the next two days kayaking in the area (coral islands for snorkeling and a picnic, exploring the eerie mangrove creeks and southern beaches) before flying back to Kilimanjaro Airport. This tour suits groups where some people want to relax on the beach while others feel like something more active. 7 Day Mainland to Zanzibar Fly to the Indian Ocean at Pangani and stay at a luxury beach lodge, exploring the local area by kayak before making the full day open-water crossing to the North of Zanzibar. Spend the next two days paddling down the Zanzibari coast to arrive at the historic port of Stonetown in the wake of countless famous explorers throughout the ages. Stay in luxury lodges throughout. Fly back to Kilimanjaro Airport on the last day. This is for more experienced paddlers. However there are plenty of alternative activities for non- paddling members of the group or people who don’t want to do the “long day”. There is a sport-fishing boat as support so some people may want to enjoy the Zanzibar crossing on this, there are good chances of seeing dolphins, turtles, flying fish and other tropical marine fauna. |
